Every once in a while, I do something social all by myself. I like me, so that is a good thing. I say this to say, please don’t wait on a plus one to go see the revival of The Color Purple on Broadway. If you saw it a few years back on Broadway, you need to see it again. This is a compeltely different show, stripped down from what it was before and simply incredible. Oh, and Oprah is still involved behind the scenes so you just might see her in the audience.
Try to go asap, because the gorgeous and uber talented Heather Headley just joined the cast as Shug Avery. She was a guest on my tv show, New York Live, last week and was fun, funny and extremely kind. Heather hasn’t been on broad was since winning a Tony for the musical Aida almost 16 years ago. She told us when she saw the revival (starring Jennifer Hudson as Shug) she was so blown away she knew she had to be a part of it. And what she brings is pure magic
Yes, Hamilton is an incredible, groundbreaking show, but this revival of The Color Purple is an experience of a lifetime. Trust.
