“You can’t look back; you have to keep looking forward.”-Lucy Liu
Born in Queens, New York, Lucy Liu is the youngest of her siblings. Lucy’s parents immigrated from Beijing and Shanghai and met in America. Growing up in a diverse neighborhood, young Lucy always had a love for her culture. After high school, she went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Asian languages and cultures from the University of Michigan. She also attended New York University.
Acting came as a surprise for Lucy. Discovered on a subway at the age of 19, she secured a gig for a commercial and caught the acting bug. The Single actress went on to act on New York stages and has starred in several big screen movies including Charlie’s Angels, Kill Bill and the animated hit Kung Fu Panda.
Although her life almost sounds like a fairy tale, Lucy has endured what millions of women have had to encounter. After a breast cancer scare in 1991, Lucy underwent surgery to remove a mysterious lump. Later classified as a benign tumor, Lucy describes what she felt after discovering the lump. “The doctor sort of felt and said it was cancer and it needs to come out. I went into shell-shock. It was pretty traumatizing.”
Lucy seems to be ok with her Single status, as displayed in the following quote: “Everything I buy is vintage and smells funny. Maybe that’s why I don’t have a boyfriend.”
Thanks to Lucy Liu, who represents the Single and living fab woman with beauty and grace!
