If you have a little black dress in your wardrobe, thank legendary designer Coco Chanel. Credited with creating the go-to black dress that any fashionable woman has in her closet, Chanel was a fiercely independent business mogul who revolutionized women’s fashion. She created a new mold for women’s apparel, often taking men’s attire, like suits and hats, and transforming them into timeless pieces for women that are still admired more than a century later. The Chanel brand continues to generate $3 billion in product each year through its 300 stores.
The trailblazing fashion designer’s brand is known worldwide, but what you probably didn’t know is that she was unapologetically single until her death in 1971 at the age of 87. She spoke often about her life and relationships including the following quote:
“It’s probably not just by chance that I’m alone. It would be very hard for a man to live with me, unless he’s terribly strong. And if he’s stronger than I, I’m the one who can’t live with him. … I’m neither smart nor stupid, but I don’t think I’m a run-of-the-mill person.”-Coco Chanel
We salute Coco Chanel for her contribution to the fashion industry and for being a proud Single woman!
